Section 2: Policy Review Insights
Adjuster Estimates
Most insurance company estimates represent a “starting point” rather than a final offer. Carriers often use software like Xactimate or Symbility to calculate repair costs based on local averages, but these databases frequently lag behind the actual real-world prices charged by local contractors. We analyze your carrier’s estimate to identify missing line items, incorrect quantities, and undervalued material costs that could leave you paying out-of-pocket for necessary repairs.
ACV or RCV?
Understanding the difference between Actual Cash Value (ACV) and Replacement Cost Value (RCV) is critical. ACV pays you the current value of the damaged item minus depreciation, while RCV pays the full cost to replace it with new materials of like kind and quality. Our review determines which settlement method your policy dictates and ensures that depreciation is not being applied to non-depreciable items like labor, which is a common error in many claims.
Deductibles and Recoverable Depreciation
The deductible is your portion of the risk, but the payout process after that can be confusing. If you have an RCV policy, the initial check is often for the ACV amount, with the remaining funds—known as “recoverable depreciation”—held until the work is completed and proof is provided to the carrier. We help you navigate this paperwork trail to ensure every dollar you are owed is eventually released into your hands.
